I really enjoyed the idea behind ASK. It stands for “Authors, Specialists, and Knowledge,” and it connects classrooms with authors or content specialists. The thought of having subject area specialists available to my students seems like it would be a great tool to explore careers. As a counselor, I struggle with the fact that students often have great questions about careers that I don’t know how to answer, and often they don’t know anyone on that career that they can job-shadow. Researching online is okay, but the ability to interview a professional would be much better.
Also in terms of talking to students about tolerance and dealing with differences, ASK would be priceless. Our school does not have a lot of diversity, so it would be interesting to hear of people’s experiences from different walks of life and different cultures.
ASK also is attractive because it seems to provide good support to teachers, including training and reusable kits.
